National Dropout Prevention Month

October is National Dropout Prevention month. During this unique time in education, I remind myself of the fundamentals to student success. The early research from America’s Promise told us there are three key elements of focus. Originally called the "3 As Framework" when students are supported in these three areas, they are likely to graduate. The 3 A are:

  • Attendance Every Day- attend school daily

  • Achievement Every Year- make academic progress annually

  • Attainment Over Time- set expectations and help students in progressing toward their long-term goals

Absences are a key indicator and often one of the first sign students are going off track. The National Dropout Prevention Center has a wealth of resources educators can use to combat dropping out. They even produce a webcast called Solutions, where you can watch yours truly share our systematic approach to improve attendance at school districts.
