Now that the hectic start of the new school year is behind you and the new school year is in full swing, we thought it was a good time to check all of your classrooms to ensure that a Williams Complaint notice is posted in each classroom as required by Education Code section 35186(f).
These notices are required to be posted in each classroom to inform parents, guardians, pupils and teachers of their right to file a complaint about insufficiencies in textbooks and instructional materials, school facilities that are unclean or unsafe, and teacher vacancies or misassignments.
Williams Complaint notices must be posted in English (and another primary language or languages if 15% or more of the pupils enrolled in a school speak a primary language other than English).
If your district has been selected for an online Federal Program Monitoring (FPM) review this year, keep in mind that you’ll be asked by the California Department of Education (CDE) to self-certify that every classroom in every school has posted the notice.
If you’re missing the notice and need a sample copy, the CDE has prepared one that you can find here:
I hope you find this helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Until next time,
Mike Brown, Good Governance Program Manager
